The first two weeks of the workshop will focus on theoretical and practical aspects of HPC in the design of scalable algorithms; and the efficient implementations of techniques from linear algebra, simulation algorithms, linear solvers and GPU programming. Hands on exercises will be carried out to take advantage of the computational infrastructure of The Cyprus Institute.
The second part of the workshop will focus on methods to manage, process and analyze large sets of data using modern computing systems, ML and deep learning exploiting multi- and many-core systems based on commodity CPUs and GPUs. Use cases from physics, materials science, and other synchrotron light source applications will be presented as concrete examples of handling the large data sets associated, and how to model these systems using ML with hands-on exercises.
Part of the workshop includes a two day introduction to transferable skills. Topics will include presentation and communication of scientific results to the scientific community and public, ethics and research integrity, publication practices and open access publications and principles of management and handling of open access scientific results, introduction to innovation management processes, business models, market analysis, creation of spin-offs, turning innovative ideas into marketable solutions.
